Position Summary:

 Custodians at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh perform individual and/or group custodial duties in academic and administrative buildings, residence halls and dining services; operate and maintain power equipment to include, but not limited to: vacuums (upright, backpack, tank, wet/dry, portable), shampooers (upholstery, extraction, bonneting), floor scrubbers, floor buffers, pressure washers, lawn mowers, snow blowers and various accessories for the above machines, and are exposed to a variety of cleaning solutions and chemicals, and may come in contact with blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Training is provided in department standards, the proper cleaning methods, equipment operation and the use of safety procedures and protective equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning of bathrooms and showers, lobbies, entrances, elevators, lodging rooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, landings, pool area, gyms, handball courts, weight rooms, locker rooms, meeting rooms, pre-function areas, etc.

Responsibilities  
Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning of bathrooms and showers, lobbies, entrances, elevators, lodging rooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, landings, pool area, gyms, handball courts, weight rooms, locker rooms, meeting rooms, pre-function areas, etc.:
1.	Clean and disinfect restrooms daily, water fountains and polish bright-work daily. 
2.	Pressure wash and scrub floors in bathrooms and showers weekly.
3.	Sweep, mop and/or vacuum floors.
4.	Sweep & mop stairs and landings, and wipe down handrails.
5.	Empty wastebaskets, remove trash and pull chutes daily.
6.	Participate in recycling program - take recycling from assigned areas to pick-up areas.
7.	Clean and polish all furniture.
8.	Spot clean walls, carpeting, furniture, venetian blinds, drapes.
9.	Dust wall vents, grates, doorframes, louvers, ledges, etc.
10.	Keep utility rooms stocked and in order: report supply needs and work orders to supervisor in a timely fashion.
11.	Unlock and lock doors and secure windows of buildings at specified times.
12.	Maintain walks and entrances (sweep and clean, snow and ice removal) and empty cigarette urns daily.
13.	Replace light bulbs, tubes and light lenses.
14.	Set up and arrange furniture in dining areas, meeting rooms, and pre-function areas throughout the building (some tables weigh in excess of 70 pounds). Set up and take down stage platforms.
15.	Set-up/take-down furniture for special events, moves, work orders, etc.
16.	Operate and maintain custodial cleaning equipment.
17.	Perform annual cleaning tasks (i.e. strip/scrub and wax floors; shampoo carpet and upholstery; clean class room tables/chairs and desks; wash windows and walls; refinish wood floors; clean light lenses, etc.).
18.	Fully pressure wash and deep clean kitchen and food service areas.
19.	Deep clean all areas: wash windows, ceilings, vents, pipes, walls, doors and all room furnishings, change lights and clean carpet.
20.	Report any unsafe conditions immediately (i.e. missing fire extinguishers, faulty switches, etc.).
21.	Test fire alarms and record results monthly.
22.	Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications  
Required:  

Attention to detail; assess workload and prioritize daily tasks; strong customer service skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; effective interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to troubleshoot problems and prioritize job tasks; ability to perform physical labor throughout work hours, including: heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, twisting and other motions; ability to work both independently and as a member of a custodial team; understand and utilize safety regulations to perform work in a safe manner at all times, utilizing safety and personal protection equipment. Employees are expected to be flexible in the performance of their job functions and to communicate respectfully with students, co-workers, supervisors and other University staff; may be asked to work hours in excess of the normal shift and after hours call-ins, including occasional weekend and holiday hours. Must have WI Drivers License and be authorized by Risk Management to drive a University vehicle upon appointment. Must pass a pre-work screen to ensure the ability to perform essential physical functions of the position. Ability to read/understand chemical labels/signs and/or pictures.

1. Ability to perform physical labor throughout work hours, including: heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, twisting and other motions.
2. May be asked to work hours in excess of the normal shift and after hours call-ins, including occasional weekend and holiday hours.
3. Must have WI Drivers License and be authorized by Risk Management to drive a University vehicle upon appointment.
4. Must pass a pre-work screen to ensure the ability to perform essential physical functions of the position.
5. Ability to read/understand chemical labels/signs and/or pictures.

Preferred:  Prior custodial experience.
