Position Summary:  Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Programs the Coordinator of Fitness Services provides leadership for a dynamic and comprehensive fitness program which includes: group fitness, personal training, fitness/wellness programming, fitness assessments/screenings, weight room orientations, and special events. The coordinator actively creates learning environments that empower student employees to create safe, inclusive and accessible recreational opportunities. The primary purpose of this position is to directly interact with students and enhance their academic learning experience outside of the classroom setting. The position coordinates fitness programs/services, fitness staff scheduling, staff learning outcomes and assessment and evaluation of the fitness program. Evening, weekend and holiday work is required.
Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for group exercise

1. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, approve payroll, and supervise all student staff/LTEs within fitness programs

2. Develop, implement, evaluate, and assess all aspects of the group exercise program

3. Communicate fitness policies and procedures; make recommendations for improvements as needed

4. Keep abreast of new developments in the group exercise program to provide new programs and activities to meet student needs

Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for personal training program

1. Recruit, hire, train schedule, payroll, and supervise all student personal trainers

2. Develop, implement, and evaluate all aspects of personal fitness training

3. Keep abreast of new developments in personal training to provide new programs and activities to meet student needs

4. Maintain certification records and prepare student use reports

Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures for special events program

1. Develop, implement, evaluate and assess all aspects of the departmental special event program

2. Keep abreast of new developments in recreational sports special events to provide new programs and activities to meet student needs

Departmental Assessment and reporting

1. Assist with the execution of an annual assessment plan for the department of Student Recreation

2. Collaborate with the Department of Institutional Research to develop new studies that will provide insight to the operation of Student Recreation, student needs, and the impact on student success, recruitment, and retention.

Develop and manage massage therapy program

1. Supervise and manage two LTE massage therapists

2. Develop and implement massage sales specials offered to the university community

3. Coordinate chair massage program for campus events and programs Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications  
Required: 1. A Bachelor’s degree in Fitness Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or related field
2. One year of professional experience in the organization and administration of fitness programming and group fitness instruction (two years of Graduate Assistant experience will qualify)
3. Proven record of success in the management of group exercise and personal training
4. Excellent interpersonal skills, and commitment to customer service
5. Ability to engage and inspire student leadership through effective mentoring and training
6. Ability to work within unit, campus, system, state, and federal policy
7. Demonstrated commitment to the ideals of Inclusive Excellence and those students who are traditionally underrepresented
Preferred: 1. A Master’s degree in Fitness Management, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or related field
2. Experience with management, development and supervision of fitness programs in recreation setting within higher education
3. Nationally recognized certification in Group Fitness and/or Personal Training
