Position Summary: The Associate Dean of the College of Business assists the Dean in the maintenance and enhancement of academic quality, including the development and reporting of Assurance of Learning and Faculty Management initiatives to support AACSB accreditation.  The Associate Dean will hold a twelve-month limited term appointment in the Dean’s Office while maintaining a concurrent tenured faculty assignment in a home department.  The associate dean will generally teach one class per semester.  The Associate Dean will work with departments and other units to ensure the delivery of high quality academic programs and initiatives.  The Associate Dean will also work with department chairs to support appropriate faculty recruitment, deployment, evaluation, and development initiatives to ensure faculty success within AACSB expectations and a high quality student learning experience.
Responsibilities

Support Academic Quality (35%)

The Associate Dean will strive to maintain and enhance the program and curriculum quality of the College:

  • Review and process mandatory program reviews;
  • Direct assessment processes and activities and prepare assessment reports;
  • Direct assurance of learning (AOL) processes and prepare periodic AOL reports;
  • Conduct exit interviews of undergraduate and graduate capstone courses;
  • Counsel and make recommendations to departments and other program units regarding curriculum and program quality improvement opportunities.

Support Accreditation Success (30%)

The Associate Dean will assist the Dean in the maintenance of AACSB accreditation and be the College representative for university or institutional accreditation initiatives:

  • Assist the Dean in the preparation and submission of required AACSB reports;
  • Counsel the Dean, departments, and other program units on accreditation issues;
  • Verify the attainment of student learning outcomes and make recommendations as appropriate;
  • Verify the academic qualifications of faculty and the maintenance of AACSB faculty qualification standards;
  • Represent the College, and coordinate College participation, on university accreditation initiatives.

Support Faculty Development (20%)

The Associate Dean will assist the departments in the recruiting, deployment, development, and retention of faculty:

  • Participate in faculty candidate interviews;
  • Coordinate and conduct new faculty orientations;
  • Counsel the departments in the deployment of faculty to maintain AACSB accreditation standards;
  • Coordinate and support faculty development and recognition processes;
  • Coordinate and support department chair development and recognition processes
  • Assist the Dean with the processing of promotion and compensation documents;
  • Assist the Dean with the processing of College faculty development projects and grants.

Perform College and University Service (10%)

The Associate Dean will represent the Dean and College in various internal and external governing and service committees, councils, and other bodies in support of the College mission:

  • College Strategic Planning Council
  • College Administrative Council – ex officio
  • Business Advisory Council
  • Graduate Programs Committee – ex officio
  • MBA Alumni Board
  • MBA Consortium Council
  • MBA Consortium Standards Committee
  • University Administrative Staff Council
  • University Graduate Council
  • Other System or University Committees or Councils dealing with graduate students

 Support the Dean as Required (5%)

As a close administrative associate to the Dean, the Associate Dean is expected to assist the Dean as conditions and situations arise:

  • Address conflicts between instructors and students and/or parents;
  • Represent the Dean in activities and committees in the Dean’s absence;
  • Completes special assignments and projects as requested by the Dean.
Qualifications  
Required: The qualified candidate will be tenured at the rank of associate professor or full professor, with Scholarly Academic (SA) faculty classification, in one of the departments in the College of Business.

  • Ability to represent the College effectively within and outside of the University;
  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
