Position Summary: This position reports to and provides full-time administrative support to the director of the Writing Center. This position has daily contact with University students, faculty, and staff to coordinate Writing Center services. The Writing Center University Services Associate has primary ongoing responsibility for student worker documentation throughout the hiring and employment process, for approving student employee time sheets, for data management, and for reporting about Writing Center usage and effectiveness to support University initiatives. This position assists with the daily operation of the Writing Center; collaborates with the director to devise and then maintain staff schedules; updates the online scheduling system and department website; completes employment records; and helps supervise writing consultants, particularly in absence of the director (whose administrative appointment is half time). This position also collaborates with the director to manage and report on the department’s budget, tracking multiple funding sources. The position requires excellent communication, the ability to work with a broad range of people, the ability to adapt to change, and commitment to support the Writing Center’s mission of student growth and learning.

• Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising student personnel

• Maintain budget and payroll records

• Manage communication and outreach




• Ability to manage complex issues, effectively organize work to meet multiple deadlines, and maintain attention to detail

• Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Apps

• Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new software applications to optimize efficiency

• Ability to exhibit initiative and independent judgment, supervision only as needed in conjunction with tasks and projects

• Strong decision-making, prioritizing and problem-solving skills

• Clear, professional, and effective written and oral communication skills, with attention to sensitivity and concision

• Organizational skills related to records management, collection and interpretation of data, and scheduling

• Strong quantitative ability to analyze data and forecast needs

• Ability to interpret and apply procedures and policies by applying appropriate administrative processes

• Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a positive work environment


• Knowledge of financial accounting systems, such as WISDM.

• Knowledge of web-based software programs, such as Google Mail, Google Docs, and Google Calendar.

• Knowledge of complex, interactive information system such as PeopleSoft Student Information system, especially in line with the functions of Student Records, Reporting, and Course Scheduling.

• Proficiency with basic web content management systems, such as WordPress.

• Knowledge of human resource database applications, such as PeopleSoft HRS.

• Knowledge of survey software, such as Qualtrics, and basic statistical analytics within Qualtrics or using another statistical software application, such as Excel.

• Knowledge of as well as ability to interpret and apply procedures and policies related to academic and administrative processes in the University, College and Departmental settings
