Position Summary:

This position leads photography and videography efforts for the University Marketing and Communications (UMC) department. The position works in a fast-paced team environment to shoot, edit, deliver, file and/or archive photos and video across three campuses. The position coordinates the creative, production and business operations of University photography/videography needs in support of the University brand and multi-channel communications. The senior photographer supervisors at least one staff photographer and student interns, maintains a department equipment inventory and budget, and researches and prepares recommendations for equipment purchases.

The position works closely with each area of the University Marketing and Communications team, including print marketing, web and new media, events, media relations and campus communications to ensure photo and video requests are scheduled and covered. He/she also works directly with campus constituents in support of event documentation, portraits and other photo and video needs. This position requires flexible scheduling, including evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities

Serve as lead University photographer and videographer: (75%)

  1. Schedule photo/video studio and marketing/event photos/videos to meet project deadlines.
  2. Shoot, edit and post high quality photos and videos for marketing and communications needs across multiple platforms that support and build on University brand.
  3. Work with UMC staff and University constituents to meet photo/video needs.
  4. Communicate with university constituents across 3 campuses.
  5. Deliver requested photos and videos on deadline.
  6. Maintain knowledge of and employ current and emerging technologies and processes related to photo and video.
  7. Evaluate and select images for use in marketing and communications for print and digital materials. 
  8. Review photo staff photos and videos for quality and brand compliance.
  9. Take photos to build database of UW Oshkosh marketing photos for UMC needs.
  10. Work with UMC staff and University constituents to meet photo/video needs.

 

Assist in and support the University’s interactions with news media and University-related events: (10%)

  1. In conjunction with the content team, provide appropriate photographs for news releases and UW Oshkosh Today news publications.
  2. Ensure appropriate response to the media’s needs for photographs of the University and its communities.
  3. Provide photographic coverage of University events and functions.

 

Develop and maintain a searchable photo database and maintain photo/video libraries and archiving system (5%)

  1. Develop and maintain a searchable photo database.
  2. Input keywords and apply metadata to digital images.
  3. Archive University media assets in accordance with organizational structure and requirements.
  4. Track, analyze, record and report data.
  5. Maintain a photo library of current University images appropriate for multiple media: print, web, social and news publications.

 

Maintain an inventory of photo/video equipment (5%)

  1. Maintain the University’s photography studio, including equipment, making recommendations for needed upgrades when appropriate.
  2. Maintain an inventory of photo and video equipment.
  3. Estimate equipment life and make recommendations for equipment replacement.
  4. Evaluate and recommend items for photo studio and photo office.

 

Other duties as assigned (5%)

  1. Train and mentor staff photographer and student interns.
  2. Schedule students.
  3. Host weekly assignment meeting for photo staff.
  4. Participate on UMC committees and attend meetings as required.
Qualifications  
Required: 1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in photography or similar field.
2. Minimum of 5 years experience as a professional photographer or related field.
3. Two years experience managing a full-service photography function, preferably in an educational institution.
4. Familiarity with photography/videography database or tracking systems.
5. Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
6. Advanced knowledge of videography and video editing, preferably Adobe Premiere Pro or a similar application.
7. Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
8. Knowledge of MS Office software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
9. Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Preferred: 1. Five or more years of experience in providing photography for marketing materials.
2. Five or more years of experience working with photo correction and preparation.
3. Five or more years of videography experience, including video editing.
